The Landing at Bald Mountain

Front Range, Colorado, United States

Details

Accommodates: 4

Bedrooms: 3

Bathrooms: 2

Description

Find a truly special high elevation Rocky Mountain retreat close to the front range, yet just far enough away, at 9400’ on top of Bald Mountain. This beautiful solar and wind-powered home gives the feeling of being miles away from civilization, with the only neighbors being elk, birds, and bunnies. The elk often make their sleeping quarters just a few feet from the house. The Landing at Bald Mountain sits on 20 acres surrounded by National Forest and has breathtaking views of Pikes Peak, yet is just 7miles to downtown Woodland Park and 25 miles to Colorado Springs. Sitting just one mile from the glistening Rampart Range Reservoir provides opportunities for water play and fishing in addition to miles of hiking and biking trails. Though you may find yourself content sitting on the deck of the cabin, whiling away the hours, watching the woodland creatures.

The Landing is 1,900 sq ft and includes a Great Room, dining area, kitchen, breakfast room enclosed in glass, as well as an outdoor patio and deck. The Great Room has a massive stone fireplace that in the early morning or evening hours accents the spectacular view framed in the floor to ceiling windows. The Master Bedroom has a king bed and two-sided fireplace and 6 ft. soaking tub surrounded by windows and a separate marble shower. The 2nd bedroom has a double bed with French Doors opening to the north side of the house. The 3rd bedroom/study has a twin bed with windows overlooking Pike's Peak. The 2nd and 3rd bedroom share a bathroom with a shower.

This is one of two apartments in the log house. There is a smaller apartment on the lower level that the owners live in. They are there to provide any assistance you might need.

Available May 1st through January 8th

Recommendations

Walk 15 minutes to beautiful Rampart Range Reservoir (15 minutes downhill to the reservoir and around 45 minutes on the uphill return to the cabin) and explore the 13 miles of walking and biking trails around it. A scenic 5-6 mile drive around the top of Bald Mountain will get you to an easy and flat trail access to the lake. From the trails around the lake there is a stunning view of the eastern plains.

Or venture into the National Forest on foot, bike, or ATV by following the road behind the house. Rent an ATV and head out Schubarth Trail (dirt road) for miles into the National Forest backing up to the Airforce Academy property.

We expect guests to clean up after themselves and leave the house in the condition they found it except for laundry--no need to do laundry and beds.

A fishing license is required to fish at Rampart Range Reservoir. These can usually be obtained at Woodland Park’s Walmart or online.
Snow is possible from October to December but will usually not interfere with access to the cabin. If there is a heavy snow our neighbor usually plows the road though it’s is important to note that guests might get snowed in for a day of more until the road is plowed.
